Music and Me
Hello, I'm Jordan Celaya, a sophomore at Converse University majoring in
Music Therapy. My primary instrument is the violin, which I have been
playing for about 9 years. Most of my education in my instruments came from
general music classes and being a part of ensembles like orchestras.
Recently as I started my journey at Converse and I have started to
learn and play more instruments such as the guitar, piano, ukulele, drums,
and voice.
One group that has been on repeat on my playlist has been the Wallows. The Wallows kind of had an interesting way of entering my playlist, so let me explain. One day when hanging out with my cousins they were playing one of their songs in their room as were just chilling there on our phones. I barely noticed it but it caught my attention close to the end and I left it at that. But from there every time I would turn on the car the first song I heard on the radio was that same song for a week straight. Even though I thought I would get tired of the tune eventually, it was so good that I added that song to my playlist, and from there I went down a rabbit hole of their music and added at least half of their albums to my playlist.

It sounds like it was fate for you to learn to enjoy that Wallows song! I've only heard one song by the Wallows before. I liked it, but I thought it was a little too sleepy for me to listen to frequently. This one is much more upbeat! I really liked the guitar part. The song may even end up on my own playlist...anyway thanks for sharing Jordan!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE The Wallows, one of my favorite songs by them is Pleaser and Are You Bored Yet. I really liked Calling After Me, I actually don't think I had heard it before! I grew up listening to En Barranquilla Me Quedo, this ALWAYS plays in family parties that we attend or in parties that we throw (it is a classic). I personally don't mind Metal music, a lot of my friends listen to it, but I can understand not liking it as much as other music
ReplyDeleteYesss The Wallows are so good! I liked all the songs you put here, even the Slipknot, but I usually like metal. Maybe you should listen to some different metal songs. I particularly like Ya'll Want a Single by Korn. I've never listened to Joe Arroyo before but I really liked how groovy it was.
ReplyDeleteHi Jordan! I loved En Barranquilla Me Quedo. It's so colorful with the different instruments and the rhythm it uses (not gonna lie, I wanted to start dancing when I played it). I'm not super familiar with the Wallows, but they seem to be a good group. The music has a sort of chill atmosphere to it...I think it's also interesting that we both put metal as the answer to the last prompt! Really nice blog. I look forward to reading future posts!
ReplyDeleteJordan!! First off, beautiful post! I enjoyed learning more about your efforts to learn multiple intstruments, I might need to take you up on that offer and we need to make some music <3. As I scrolled through, I figured (and hoped) to see something that expanded more on your culture. For my meaningful song[s] and genres, I also put down Salsa. Something about being a Latin American and having the opportunity to express our culture just brings me so much joy. I also listen to En Barranquilla growing with my family, and remembering that salsa was made to make memories and bring us so much joy. Also, the Wallows sound like a good band, but this song reminds me a lot of the song Comfort Zone by Yot Club, you might like them, too <3 Can't wait to read further blogs!
